Indiana Oversize Permits Duration

Indiana Oversize Permits remain valid for a period of fifteen days.

Operating Time

Vehicles with permits, up to 110 feet in length, 10 feet wide, and 13 feet 6 inches high, weighing less than 200,000 pounds, are permitted continuous travel seven days a week (24/7). Those exceeding 110 feet in length, measuring between 10 feet and 14 feet 4 inches in width, and up to 15 feet in height, are allowed to travel seven days a week from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Vehicles with widths ranging from 14 feet 4 inches to 16 feet are permitted Monday through Friday, from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Loads exceeding 16 feet in width, over 15 feet in height, or exceeding 200,000 pounds are typically authorized to move between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, although other provisions may apply. Overweight-only loads have the flexibility to travel 24/7.

Restricted Travel in Indiana

Travel is prohibited on major holidays and holiday weekends.

Toll Road

Without Indiana Oversize permits, the maximum allowable dimensions on routes/loads using only the toll road are 12 feet wide, 14 feet 6 inches in height, length over 65 feet, and a gross weight of 90,000 pounds. For larger dimensions, the toll road can be utilized with a state permit and an additional $50 special permit charge. Weight charges are addressed in the state permit. Loads exceeding 10 feet in width are restricted to daylight hours only. However, 12 feet wide loads are permitted to run on weekends, except on certain holidays. The toll charge is determined by the number of axles and miles. For a legal weight load, less than 12 feet wide, traveling the toll road from Gate 21 at Portage to the Ohio line, the cost is approximately $30.00. Escort requirements align with those for other divided highways in Indiana.
