PERMITS:

West Virginia oversize permits are valid for a period of five calendar days and must be obtained prior to entering the state.

OPERATING TIME OF WEST VIRGINIA OVERSIZE PERMITS:

Travel is permitted from sunrise to sunset, Monday through Friday. Weekend movement is allowed on Interstate and divided routes if dimensions do not exceed 14’6″ high, 14′ wide, 95′ long, or 15′ total overhang. On US and selected WV routes, weekend running is permitted within limits of 14′ high, 12′ wide, 75′ long, and 10′ total overhang. Weekend movement on all other routes is allowed if dimensions do not exceed 13’6″ high, 12′ wide, 75′ long, and 10′ total overhang. Overweight-only loads, not exceeding 110,000 pounds gross, are permitted 24/7. Overweight-only loads exceeding 110,000 pounds gross can only travel from sunrise to sunset, Monday through Friday.

RESTRICTED TRAVEL:

Over-dimensional travel is generally not permitted on major holidays and holiday weekends.

WEST VIRGINIA PARKWAY: No night running or overnight parking is allowed on the Parkway, and entry cutoff time depends on the time of year. Vehicles/loads over 14′ wide are restricted to Monday through Thursday movement, with no Friday movement allowed. Most other overdimensional rules align with those on the Interstates in West Virginia.

Note:

Additional escort requirements may be imposed by local districts.

MISCELLANEOUS:

The maximum width for a blade or bucket is 12 feet. If the combined weight of the gross dozer and blade exceeds 80,000 pounds, the blade must be detached and transported on a separate trailer.

SIGNS, FLAGS & LIGHTS FOR WEST VIRGINIA OVERSIZE PERMITS:

All oversize loads require “Oversize Load” signs at the front and rear, along with six flags. The flags should be positioned on each side of the front bumper of the power unit and on each top corner of the load. Overhang exceeding 4 feet requires either a flag or a flashing amber light. No sign or flag requirements apply to overweight-only loads.
